Samuel Duboc named BDC chairman

OTTAWA—Businessman Samuel Duboc has been named chairman of the Business Development Bank of Canada.

The appointment of Duboc, the founder, president and managing partner of Edge Stone Capital Partners, was announced in Ottawa by federal Industry Minister James Moore.

“Mr. Duboc has a wealth of knowledge and experience in Canada’s business development community, which makes him well qualified for chairmanship of the BDC,” said Minister Moore.

“He has proven himself to be one of our country’s foremost investment and venture capital experts, advising the minister of finance on the design and implementation of Canada’s Venture Capital Action Plan.”

In addition to Edge Stone, Duboc previously served as managing director at CIBC Capital Partners and co-founded and developed Loyalty Management Group Canada Inc., the owner and operator of the Air Miles reward program.

With almost 2,000 employees and more than 100 business centres across Canada, the BDC offers financing, subordinate financing, venture capital and consulting services to 28,000 small- and medium-sized companies.
