WINNIPEG—New Flyer Industries Inc.’s American subsidiary, New Flyer of America Inc., has won a contract to provide 138 heavy-duty buses to New York City Transit Authority.

The manufacturer said the deal for its 40-foot Xcelsior compressed natural gas buses is valued at US$78 million.

The deal builds on the company’s footprint within the U.S. city’s transit system, which is the largest in North America. Consisting of NYCT and the MTA Bus Company, the system operates more than 5,700 transit buses, approximately 1,350 of which are New Flyer-built.
