Company's U.S. subsidiary nets firm order for 44 new 60-foot buses

WINNIPEG—New Flyer Industries Inc. has won a major order from the Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority, which coordinates transit routes in metro Boston.

The company’s U.S. subsidiary, New Flyer of America Inc., has won a contract to supply the city with up to 90 Xcelsior diesel electric buses. The contract includes a firm order for 44 of the 60-foot hybrid buses—valued at about US$50 million—as well as options for an additional 46 commuter vehicles.

The Winnipeg-based firm said of the more than 1,000 buses the MBTA operates, New Flyer or its subsidiary, North American Bus Industries, has built 709.

The new order follows on the heels of a 350-bus order from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority, announced last week.
