IRVING, Tx.—Fluor Corp. has been awarded a front-end engineering and design contract by the North West Redwater Partnership for a new refinery project in Alberta.
The company will be responsible for two sections of the refinery to upgrade bitumen, separating components and removing impurities and will also re-evaluate the FEED deliverables based on a revised crude slate.

The Redwater refinery, north of Edmonton, will use oil sands bitumen to produce diesel, diluent and naphtha. To reduce the project’s environmental impact, the refinery will incorporate gasification and carbon capture and storage.
