BURLINGTON, Ont.—Fire crews battled a major blaze late into the evening Dec. 6 at the Paletta International Corp. meat processing plant in Burlington Ont.
The fire started Wednesday afternoon at the manufacturing facility southeast of Toronto, which also operates as Tender Choice Foods.
Videos from the scene show that part of the building’s roof had collapsed as crews poured water on the fire. Despite destroying part of the plant, officials said all workers at the scene were accounted for after the blaze. Police said there were no injuries.
Smoke from the blaze forced shutdowns on the nearby Queen Elizabeth Way as police warned commuters to find alternative routes.
The fire started in the east side of the building and prompted a response from the Burlington Fire Department as well as two neighbouring departments.
An investigation in ongoing.
