Bombardier CEO says $1.2B TTC streetcar debacle is ‘disappointing’

Bombardier has faced scathing criticism from the Toronto Transit Commission over late deliveries related to the contract for 200 new streetcars
MIRABEL, Que.—Bombardier’s CEO says the company will do whatever is required to deliver a long-delayed streetcar order to Toronto’s public transit system.
Alain Bellemare conceded the railway division’s performance has been below expectation but says a recovery plan is in the works.
“The situation on the train side in Toronto is a disappointing one for us,” he said. “I am not pleased with where we are.”
His comments came during a news conference at the company’s annual meeting in Mirabel, Que.
Bombardier has faced scathing criticism from the Toronto Transit Commission over late deliveries related to the $1.2-billion contract for 200 new streetcars.
Bellemare defended the quality of the cars that have been delivered, saying the issues are with manufacturing and not performance.
He said the newly named president for the division overseeing transport in the Americas is meeting with decision-makers in Toronto to fix the problem.
