Public safety often relies on small details most people wouldn’t notice in their day-to-day lives. That was the case with a Canadian city transit system, experiencing excessive wear to the joints of bus flooring on its public transportation buses.

Rider tripping hazards were developing as the flooring joints bonded with the epoxy peel. The plywood base was delaminating due to moisture penetration from the failed adhesive seal. Short adhesive open time was creating waste and increasing overall costs.

Henkel Canada Corp. came up with a robust solution to the challenge—LOCTITE EA E-20HP Epoxy Structural Adhesive. First, dust and loose dirt were removed from the bonding area. Tape was placed on both sides of the flooring joint and the adhesive was applied with a Loctite Dual Cartridge Applicator and mixer nozzle.

LOCTITE EA E-20HP was spread into and around the joint and the adhesive filet was flattened. After curing for 20 minutes, the tape was removed and the filled joint allowed to fully cure.Henkel bus flooring

The Henkel adhesive solution provides substantial savings to the transit system in flooring repair and replacement costs, and maintains a safer rider environment.

LOCTITE EA E-20HP also colour matches the flooring colour providing a significant aesthetic advantage. Its non-sagging adhesive characteristic makes it easy to work on vertical flooring joints. The 20-minute open time is just right for the transit application, eliminating waste and managing application costs.
