Union serves strike notice at Cascade Aerospace plant in B.C.

Unifor represents 440 workers at Abbotsford, B.C., plant; will strike June 4 if issues not resolved
ABBOTSFORD, B.C.—The union representing 440 workers at Cascade Aerospace Inc. in British Columbia is threatening to strike.
Unifor says it has served strike notice and if outstanding issues can’t be resolved, workers will be off the job starting June 4.
The union represents aircraft maintenance engineers, interior technicians, painters, maintenance, planning clerks and sheet metal mechanics at the Abbotsford, B.C., plant.
Cascade Aerospace is the primary Department of National Defence contractor for repair and overhaul on the Hercules aircraft heavy transport fleet.
It also repairs commercial aircraft for firms such as Canjet.
Unifor says workers are being asked for concessions that include rolling back benefits.
Workers at the plant voted 98 per cent in favour of a strike earlier this month.
Their current contract expired on March 30.
