SEATTLE—Online retail giant Amazon.com Inc. is adding to its ever-growing roster of fulfillment centres across the U.S. with its first major warehouse in New York.

The company said Sept. 6 it will open a new 855,000 square-foot facility in the New York City borough of Staten Island. The site is expected to create 2,250 full-time jobs as Amazon continues to build its network of delivery hubs.

The Seattle-based tech giant said the fulfillment centre will employ advanced robotic technology alongside its human workforce to ensure everything from household essentials to toys are packed up and swiftly shipped to customers.

The company did not specify when the facility will open or its cost.
