Héroux-Devtek subsidiary to supply landing gear for Boeing 777

LONGUEUIL, Que.— A subsidiary of Canadian parts maker Héroux-Devtek Inc. has signed an agreement with The Boeing Company to build landing gear systems for the aerospace giant’s 777 and 777X programs.

According to the Quebec-based company, its HDI Landing Gear USA Inc. subsidiary has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the world’s largest aerospace company to supply complete landing gear systems, including the main and nose landing gear and nose landing gear drag strut, for the two programs.

Supply for the 777X is contingent on the launch of the program.

Under a multi-year contract the firm said it expects will be signed before the end of 2013, deliveries would begin in early 2017 with an option to extend the deal through 2028.

“This is a landmark achievement for Héroux-Devtek, as the long-term contract with Boeing would represent the largest contract ever awarded to our landing gear operations,” Héroux-Devtek president and CEO Gilles Labbé said in a statement.

The Boeing 777 is the world’s most successful twin-engine, long-haul airplane, with 1,460 orders for 777s from 66 global customers to date.

According to Héroux-Devtek, Canada’s Industrial Regional Benefits (IRB) program played a large part in getting a deal done with Boeing.

The federal IRB program requires prime contractors like Boeing to make investments in Canada as a result of winning defense and security contracts.

The agreement between the sides includes manufacturing parts for Boeing to sell in the aftermarket.
