Bombardier missed 2013 delivery target, blames global economy

Aerospace division said it delivered 238 planes, received orders for 388 more over course of year
MONTREAL—Bombardier Inc.’s aerospace division missed its own projections for 2013 aircraft deliveries on the back of a longer-than-expected global economic recovery.
In its report on total aircraft orders and deliveries from the previous year, Bombardier Aerospace said it delivered 238 planes and received orders for 388 more over the course of the 2013 calendar year.
That compares to 233 deliveries and 481 orders in 2012.
The manufacturer was targeting 243 deliveries last year, it said, but came up short in its business jet projections.
It delivered 180 business aircraft in 2013, missing its target of 190 jets.
Bombardier said the missed projection was mainly due to the switch from the Learjet 40 XR and Learjet 45 XR aircraft to the Learjet 70 and Learjet 75 aircraft, which entered into service in the fourth quarter of 2013.
It received 305 net orders for business jets in 2013, compared to 343 for the previous year.
“The global economy has remained persistently sluggish, and with its recovery taking longer than originally anticipated, 2013 continued to be a challenging year for aviation,” Bombardier Aerospace president and chief executive Guy Hachey said in a release.
In 2013, Bombardier delivered 55 commercial aircraft, compared to 50 for the previous calendar year.
The deliveries for the year were in line with projections.
According to Bombardier, it received 81 orders for commercial aircraft, compared to 138 for the previous year.
