Bombardier Aerospace buys land for manufacturing plant in Morocco

$200-million facility expected to employ 850 by end of 2020
Montreal—Bombardier’s Aerospace division is moving ahead with plans to open a manufacturing facility in North Africa, announcing a deal to buy land in Morocco.
The new plant will be located in the Midparc Casablanca Free Zone, in Nouaceur, approximately 30-kilometres from Casablanca.
According to Bombardier, the site was chosen due to “internationally competitive manufacturing costs,” low shipping cost and its proximity to Europe.
The project carries a price tag of approximately $200-million, which includes equipment, building and start-up costs over the next eight years, according to Bombardier.
Construction of the facility will start later this year.
The new facility’s operations will initially include sub-assembly for simple structures, though details on the types of components to be manufactured have yet to be finalized.
The Moroccan facility is expected to employ approximately 850 by the end of 2020.
