Users are told they cannot increase taxes and that any spending increases must be balanced by cuts in other areas

WINNIPEG—The Manitoba government has a new website where people can build their own provincial budget, but there’s a catch.

The website allows people to raise or cut spending in different areas of government and see how that affects the government’s spending plan.

Users are told they cannot increase taxes and that any spending increases must be balanced by cuts in other areas.

The Conservative government says it has promised not to raise taxes, so that option is off the table.

The website is part of public consultations for next year’s budget.

Finance Minister Cameron Friesen says there will also be public meetings around the province, just like previous years.
