High Liner said it expects the purchase to double its sales in salmon products

LUNENBURG, N.S.—High Liner Foods Inc. has acquired Atlantic Trading Co. LLC, an importer of frozen and fresh salmon products in the U.S.

The Nova Scotia-based value-added frozen seafood company said it expects the purchase to double its sales in salmon products.

Atlantic Trading is one of the largest importers of frozen Atlantic salmon fillets and portions from Chile and Norway with revenues ranging between US$75 million and US$80 million.

High Liner did not disclose what it paid for the company.

“Our vision is to be the leading frozen seafood supplier in North America and a key component of our strategy is to acquire profitable and complementary businesses like Atlantic Trading,” said Henry Demone, CEO of High Liner Foods.

Atlantic Trading is based in Miami, Fla., and has been operating since 1984. It mainly sells frozen salmon prodcuts under the brand “C. Wirthy & Co.” to major supermarkets and supercentre operators in the U.S.
