Machinery, equipment and supplies were offset by lower sales in the motor vehicle and parts subsector
OTTAWA—Statistics Canada says wholesale sales were unchanged at $57.0 billion in January.
Economists had expected a gain of 0.2 per cent, according to Thomson Reuters.
The result came as gains in the machinery, equipment and supplies group were offset by lower sales in the motor vehicle and parts subsector.
In dollar terms, the machinery, equipment and supplies subsector led the gains as the sector increased 2.6 per cent to $11.5 billion.
However, sales in the motor vehicle and parts subsector fell 2.8 per cent to $11.0 billion, the first move lower in three months.
In volume terms, overall sales fell 0.2 per cent for the month.
