Ontario Export Awards finalist profile: Aeryon Labs
by Canadian Manufacturing Staff
Aeryon Labs was named a finalist for the Consumer Products & Technology award at the 2014 Ontario Export Awards
Location: Waterloo, Ont.
Year Established: 2007
Company Description: Aeryon Labs Inc. manufactures small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) and markets them to civil and military customers, resellers, and commercial businesses around the globe.
Founded by three University of Waterloo-educated engineers, the vision was to take the capabilities of sUAS from toys to tools that anyone could use. With backgrounds in telecom and digital video systems, the team envisioned a way to develop a system that could take on all the responsibilities of flying and allow a user to focus on getting their job done.
With the rise of toy drone popularity in Europe and China, Aeryon has questioned its position in the market several times, only to reaffirm the strategy to position itself at the high-end of the market—building tools and not toys.
Top Export Markets: Iraq, Ecuador, the United States, Indonesia
Finalist Bona Fides: Aeryon soared to the top of the list in the Consumer Products & Technology category by making a disruptive new technology and marketing it to a global customer base.
The sUAS market has plenty of room to grow and Aeryon is already leading the charge in this disruptive new sector.
