SASKATOON—Crews from three fire departments continue to battle flames that are roaring through a rubber tire recycling business near Saskatoon.

The Saskatoon Fire Department says two buildings in the three-building Shercom Industries complex have been destroyed as firefighters try to save the third building.

Thick smoke has been billowing from the site for more than 18 hours, but has been blowing away from the city and nearby Martensville.

Dave Bykowy, a fire department spokesman, says the air is being monitored for toxic fumes and crews battling the fire are wearing oxygen breathing equipment to protect themselves.
