ST. JOHN’S, N.L.—Irving Oil Ltd. has been fined $13,000 after pleading guilty to three charges related to a traffic accident at a job site in Newfoundland that claimed the life of one man and left two others injured.
On July 5, 2011, the three were among a crew working on the Outer Ring Road in St. John’s when a car veered into the group.
The three were inspecting the deterioration of asphalt around the city.
Joe English, an engineer with the provincial Transport Department, died at the scene.
A salesperson from Irving Oil was seriously injured, as was an employee with the City of St. John’s.
Court heard none of them was wearing protective gear or had been trained to be working at such a site.
