Employee killed on the job at Suncor oilsands site in Alberta

Suncor said employee "severely injured while working" at facility near Fort McMurray, Alta.

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta.—A Suncor Energy Inc. employee died at the company’s northeastern Alberta oilsands site Easter Sunday, marking the second worker death at the site this year.

According to the energy giant, the employee was “severely injured while working” at the site near Fort McMurray, Alta., before noon April 20.

The worker was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Suncor said a full investigation will be launched into the matter.

The name of the worker is not being released by the company.

The incident marks the second death at the facility in 2014, after a worker was found dead in January.
