2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat gets its giddyup from supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI V8

TORONTO—The pride of Brampton is about to give Oshawa’s finest a run for its money.

Earlier this year, the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 cemented itself atop the “new muscle car you should sell everything to own” list thanks to its race-inspired everything and a Nürburgring lap time that strikes fear into the heart of everyone who has forked out the roughly $300,000 it costs for a Lexus LFA supercar.

In short, the Z/28 is a $77,000 beast.

But the folks at Dodge couldn’t take the Oshawa-built Z/28 lying down, unleashing on the world the all-new 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat, a supercharged homage to the glory days of the muscle car.

Built in Brampton, just a short trip along the 401 west of Oshawa, the SRT Hellcat boasts a 6.2-litre HEMI V8 that pushes out a claimed 600-plus horsepower—the most produced by a V8 engine in Chrysler’s history.

While a Nürburgring time hasn’t been published, it’s not hard to imagine a lap time in the neighbourhood of the race-ready Camaro given the Hellcat’s freakish power.

The Z/28 has officially been put on notice.
