Drivers in the Toronto suburb of Brampton, Ont., were treated to a spectacular light show as a top-of-the-line Porsche 918 Spyder sports car dramatically burned as it sat at the pumps of a gas station.

The 918 is an electric hybrid luxury sports car with a combined fuel consumption of 3.1 l /100 km and CO2 emissions 72-70 g/km. It’s 4.6-litre V-8 engine produces 608 hp at 8,700 rpm. Its reaches a top speed of 345 km/h with the gas engine and 150 km/h in the electric-only mode.

And this hybrid answers the hype: it lapped the famed Nürburgring 20.6-kilometre track in 6 minutes 57 seconds with an average speed of 179.5 km/h.

Porsche’s website lists the base-model vehicle at US$845,000.
