Two million overnight trips the highest since record-keeping began
OTTAWA—The number of Canadians making overnight trips to the US hit a record high in December. Statistics Canada says there were nearly two million overnight trips to the United States, the highest level since record-keeping began 40 years ago.
There were also 2.7 million same-day car trips to the US. In total, there were 4.7 million trips to the US from Canada, an increase of 1.8 percent. In the opposite direction, travel to Canada from the United States rose 1.7 percent to 1.7 million trips.
Canadian travel to overseas countries remained unchanged from November at 808,000 trips. Travel to Canada from overseas countries increased 0.8 per cent from November to 393,000 trips.
