New electronic components on the market
When it comes to electronic components there’s no shortage out there to choose from. In this issue we take a look at a few of the new products that are available for those who need to buy electronic components.
Power electronics capacitor manufacturer Cornell Dubilier has recently expanded its high current power film capacitor series to include over 120 ratings with extended voltages up to 1300 Vdc. The company said the metalized polypropylene film capacitors deliver higher bus capacitance with the enhanced ripple current handling capabilities required for inverters in wind, solar and fuel cell applications.
The aluminum cylindrical case is electrically isolated from the capacitor and available in 85-, 90- and 116-mm diameters with lengths of 85, 97, 120, 145 and 170mm, with the option of M5 or M6 threaded insert terminals or M8 threaded stud-top terminals. Standard parts are supplied with an M12 bottom-mounting stud. Cornell Dubilier electronic components are distributed through Digi-Key Electronics.
LED lighting
Through component distributor Mouser comes the Cree XLamp XM-L high voltage white LEDs. The product is smaller than other high-voltage LED arrays, said the company, which allows easy implementation of space-constrained lighting applications with smaller, more efficient high-voltage drivers. Among these applications are small lamps such as B10, GU10 and E17.
As well, TE Connectivity has released a new edition to its solderless LED socket series: the Type NL2 socket for quick termination of NICHIA COB-L LEDs. TE Connectivity said the new offering provides a reliable mechanical and electrical connection of an LED onto a heat sink.
The one-piece connector assembly features TE’s poke-in wire termination method for 18 through 22 AWG solid, 18 through 20 AWG pre-bonded and 18 AWG standard wires. Termination to the COB-L LED is simplified with locating features that position the LED into the socket during the assembly process, creating protection for the ceramic LED edges. As well, the integrated polarization feature allows a secure and lasting connection, which fits solid, stranded or fused wires and makes installation quick and easy. Other product features include a cleared area designated for reflector mounting that accepts custom or commercially available optics, UV-resistant housing material to prevent housing discolouration and molded polarity indicator on the housing. The socket is designed for chip-on-board LEDs from NICHIA. It’s suitable for applications such as retail lighting, commercial down lights and high bay lighting.
Connector manufacturer CONEC has developed and expanded its combination mixed layout D-subminiature connector family by adding high density (size 22) signal contact layouts. The high-density configurations now available are: 19W1, 15W4 and 45W2, in straight solder pin and solder cup versions. CONEC said the new configurations provide flexibility for those needing more signal contacts in a small space.
The connectors work for applications where power, coax and signal contacts are required, the company said. Signal contacts can handle up to three amps at 60 volts. The power contacts are rated from 10 to 40 amps and coax contacts are available in 50Ohm and 75Ohm versions. CONEC combination D-subminiature connectors use gold plated, copper alloy screw machine contacts. Insulator material is UL 94 V-0 rated paired with tin-plated steel housings. Other housing materials are available, such as copper alloy (for non-magnetic applications) or stainless steel (for use in harsh environments).
