CAMBRIDGE, ON—Com Dev International Ltd has been awarded a contract for satellite components from MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. The authorization to proceed contract will see $5.1 million initially released to cover engineering and procurement activities.
The project will deliver Ku-band and Ka-band multiplexers, switches and microwave components for use in a communications satellite. Com Dev says the full value of the contract is expected to exceed $11 million, with an option for a replacement flight set valued at more than $10 million. The work will be done at the company’s Cambridge, Ontario facility.

Com Dev builds subsystems and other technology for major satellite contractors, government agencies and satellite operators. MDA, best-known as the maker of the robotic arms used on the International Space Station and the now-retired US space shuttles, supplies technology to a variety of businesses that use satellites to collection information from space.
