Winnipeg-based bus maker adds to recent order tally with new diesel-electric bus contract

WINNIPEG—Canadian bus maker New Flyer Industries Inc. has won a fresh order from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency worth approximately US$153 million.

Awarded to the company’s U.S. subsidiary, the deal is an add-on order to a contract originally signed in December of 2014.

Under the deal, New Flyer will manufacture 167 heavy-duty 40- and 60-foot Xcelsior for the San Francisco Municipal Railway, which operates under the SFMTA umbrella. All buses will use hybrid diesel-electric propulsion.

The fresh options follow a pair of orders in North Carolinaand South Carolina, which New Flyer of America Inc. announced last month. North of the border, the Winnipeg-based manufacturer recently won a 28-bus order with a transit provider in London, Ont.
