Canadian transportation firm says it will assemble EMD locomotives at Savli plant in India

BERLIN—Bombardier and Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc., (EMD) are teaming up to build diesel electric locomotives in India.

Following a similar agreement between the two firms at Bombardier’s Ciudad Sahagun, Mexico manufacturing site, the Canadian rail giant says it will manufacture components—including underframes and bogies—and assemble the locomotives at its Savli facility in India.

EMD will provide all engineering and quality control and will be responsible for product performance, according to Bombardier.

“Bombardier and EMD will help transform the rail transportation industry in the region by leveraging both of our companies’ capabilities,” Bombardier Transportation president and CEO André Navarri said in a statement.
