Atlantic Towing lands deal for 4 new platform supply ships

New ships will be designed and built by Damen Shipyards Group of the Netherlands

SAINT JOHN, N.B.—Atlantic Towing Ltd. says it has signed a 10-year contract for four new platform supply ships that will create 100 jobs in St. John’s, N.L.

The contract, which includes an additional total of 15 years of options, with ExxonMobil Canada Properties and Hibernia Management and Development will see the first ships delivered in 2016.

The ships will join Atlantic Towing’s current fleet of eight offshore support vessels in Atlantic Canada.

Financial terms of the contract weren’t disclosed, but Atlantic Towing describes the deal as the largest in the company’s history.

The new ships will be designed and built by Damen Shipyards Group of the Netherlands.

Atlantic Towing, which provides a wide range of marine services, is part of the J.D. Irving Ltd. family of companies.
