New Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon expected in 2015 after dropping from segment in 2012

ACME, Mich.—General Motors is hoping to stir up some hype around its next-generation Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon compact pickup trucks, teasing an image of the two months ahead of the design launch.

Out of the compact pickup game for about a year, GM is hoping a new entry in the segment will help rejuvenate sluggish sales that saw the Detroit Three all abandon their respective small trucks after the 2012 model year.

The image of the new Canyon and Colorado shows little more than the grilles and badging of the pickups, but shows off a more refined look than the edgy-but-dated previous generation.

The automaker promises the trucks are “designed to be capable, versatile and fuel-efficient alternatives to full-size pickups.”

Production is scheduled to start in 2014 at GM’s Wentzville, Mo., assembly plant.
