COME BY CHANCE, N.L.—North Atlantic Refining says about 1,500 litres of crude oil was spilled into Newfoundland’s Placentia Bay earlier this week.

The oil appears to have leaked from a pipe on the jetty outside the Come by Chance oil refinery.

The spill is largely contained in the Bordeaux area, about six kilometres southwest of the refinery.

North Atlantic says a boom has been put in place around the spill to prevent it from spreading.

The Fish Food and Allied Workers Union is expressing concern about the possibility of further spills threatening the area’s rich marine life.
