Company said no environmental damage after falling ice damages pipe
TORONTO—Canadian gold miner Barrick Gold Corp. has resumed normal operations at its Veladero mine in northwest Argentina after a damaged pipe leaked a small amount of solution into the mine’s leach pad area last month.
Temporarily halting operations pending an investigation in early September, the company said it has now begun restarting production. The incident was cause by a falling block of ice.
Following the investigation, Barrick said the accident did not result in any environmental damage.
The gold miner said it will continue to asses the impact of the mine’s suspension on its 2016 production, but expects to maintain its production guidance.
