Sale of Rothsay to Texas-based Darling International Inc. expected to close Oct. 28

TORONTO—Maple Leaf Foods Inc. says the $645-million sale of its rendering and biodiesel unit will go ahead as announced, closing later this month.

First announced in August, the Canadian food maker is selling its Rothsay business to Texas-based Darling International Inc., including six renderings plants in Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia, and a biodiesel facility in Quebec.

The company plans to use proceeds from the deal to pay down down.

The transaction is expected to close Oct. 28.
