Review announced last September will encourage public participation

TORONTO‑Last September, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board announced a comprehensive funding review to address concerns about its unfunded liabilities.

Former President of York University and Dean of Osgoode Hall Law School will chair the review. Buzz Hargrove, former National President of the Canadian Auto Workers and former Progressive Conservative leader John Tory will act as advisors on the project.

It will involve a number of consultations in major centres across Ontario, hoping to gather input from employers, workers, and labour organizations on a number of issues relating to the WSIB’s financial future.

A green paper released today titled “Funding Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance System: A Green Paper for Public Discussion” provides an overview of a number of the financial issues faced by the WSIB.
