Q400 NextGen passenger planes ordered for WestJet Encore worth US$167-million based on list prices

TORONTO—WestJet Airlines Ltd. has signed a deal to buy five Q400 NextGen turboprop passenger planes from Bombardier Inc. for its regional carrier.

Bombardier said the deal is worth US$167-million at list prices.

The purchase order with WestJet Encore Ltd. is a conversion of five of the 25 options book by parent company WestJet in 2012 when it ordered 20 Q400 NextGen airliners.

The order increases Encore’s fleet of Q400s to 25 as it looks to expand its service into eastern Canada.

WestJet still has further options for 20 more Q400 aircraft between 2016 and 2018.

Built at Bombardier’s Toronto facility, the aerospace firm has recorded firm orders almost 500 Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft.
