Acquisition of Bibler Brothers Lumber Co. sawmill will be fourth West Fraser operation in state

VANCOUVER—West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. has struck a deal to buy the Bibler Brothers Lumber Co. sawmill and manufacturing operations in Arkansas.

The Bibler operation is about 130 kilometres from a sawmill that the Vancouver-based company recently acquired in Mansfield, Ark., and will be the fourth West Fraser operation in that state.

The Arkansas acquisitions are part of West Fraser’s plans to expand in the southern United States and Western Canada, where it has its base.

Financial details of the Bibler deal were not released.

West Fraser says the sawmill produced about 136 million board-feet of lumber last year.

The deal is expected to close before the end of April.

West Fraser also said it has closed its purchase of the Buchanan Lumber sawmill in Alberta and plans to expand its annual capacity to about 175 million board feet from about 110 million.
