The move comes following a six-month pilot program.

SAN DIEGO— Waste Management, Inc. plans to deploy DriveCam’s driver risk management and fleet management solution throughout its fleet of collection vehicles for a five-year term.

The decision to incorporate a driver-risk management program into its operational initiatives comes following a six-month pilot program.

“DriveCam delivered clear benefits in the pilots (projects) that we believe will help enable strategic differentiation in the market and reduce our risk related costs,” said Waste Management COO, Jim Trevathan. “The managers and drivers that participated in the trials embraced the DriveCam program because they recognized its ability to enhance our performance and offer a competitive advantage.”

DriveCam combines data and video analytics with real-time driver feedback and coaching in hopes of reducing fuel consumption and other costs.

Its Driver Science Engine, an iterative process of scoring, prioritizing and tracking the results of driving behaviors, identifies behavioral improvement opportunities for increased safety. In-cab video captures driving behavior, which is objectively reviewed and scored, then passed on to the fleet for use in coaching drivers.

DriveCam’s solution focuses on the three driving behaviors that have the greatest impact on fuel efficiency: efficient or “smooth” driving, idling and speeding.

Waste Management, Inc., based in Houston, provides comprehensive waste management services in North America.
