A turnaround is a massive preventative and predictive maintenance endeavour akin to an 18,000-point inspection on a vehicle.

Suncor’s  turnaround on its upgrader in Fort McMurray, Alta., in August 2011 lasted six weeks, required 4,000 workers putting in 1.2 million man-hours.

It included work on:
• 80 vessels
• 101 exchangers
• 300 control valves
• 141 pressure safety valves
• 316 block valves
• 260 instruments

“We are pleased to have been selected by Suncor and look forward to building on our long-standing relationship as we work toward the successful completion of this project,” said Karl Roberts, Senior Vice President, KBR Canada.
