Soft drink manufacturer tackles damaged plant floors with innovative concrete repair solution

Damage to manufacturing plant floors is all too common in rigorous industrial environments. The situation often poses safety and productivity hazards, especially when forklifts—which need a smooth operating surface—are involved.

That was the challenge faced by a soft drink manufacturing and bottling company. Concerned with forklift safety on its deteriorating concrete floors, the company sought a fast-curing concrete repair product to provide a long-term fix to damaged floors and avoid delaying traffic flow in the plant.

With the damaged floors, operators were finding heavy soft drinks loads were at risk of toppling when being moved by material handling equipment. Standard concrete was considered as a solution, but requires up to three days for the patch to fully cure.

A strong and simple solution

Loctite PC 9410 Magna-Crete bonds to concrete, wood, glass, steel and other construction materials. In the case of the soft drink manufacturer, staff first prepared the floors by using a hammer drill to remove loose material. Feathered edges of the damaged area were cut down to a depth of half an inch to improve the adhesive strength of the patch to the old
concrete. A trowel was used to apply and smooth the Loctite PC 9410 Magna Crete.

The repaired floors could be returned to normal forklift traffic in less than 30 minutes. The Henkel maintenance solution saved the company valuable production time by minimizing downtime.
