Ontario firm buys rights to Scotts Miracle-Gro bird food brands

Armstrong Milling Co. Ltd. has been co-packer for U.S. firm for nearly a decade

HAGERSVILLE, Ont.—Bird food co-packer Armstrong Milling Co. Ltd. said it is buying the Canadian rights to the Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. bird feed brands.

According to the Ontario-based manufacturer, it is buying the brands it has packaged for Scotts for nearly a decade.

Financial details were not disclosed.

“Armstrong has been packaging the Scotts brands for over seven years in Canada and is excited to take on the Canadian leadership role and perspective along with marketing a great Canadian brand,” Armstrong co-founder Ken Zantingh said in a statement.

“We expect to supply the customer base 100 per cent complete and on time over the transition period and for many years to come.”

Armstrong manufactures more than 400 pet products at its plant in Hagersville, Ont., about 50 kilometres south of Hamilton.
