Omron, Colgate-Palmolive to make smarter toothbrushes

Considering what Omron has done with robotics and sensors, imagine what the toothbrushes will look like?

NEW YORK—Global industrial firm Omron is partnering with Colgate-Palmolive to market and develop oral care products, including electric toothbrushes.

The partnership combine’s Colgate’s global marketing reach, consumer insights and research and development with Omron’s engineering, manufacturing and sensing and control technologies.

Considering what Omron has done with robotics and sensors, imagine what the toothbrushes will look like?

The partnership will this year launch a line of electric toothbrushes based on Omron technology that will be marketed by Colgate, which currently offers only manual toothbrushes and battery-powered brushes.

“Collaborating with a company like Colgate-Palmolive provides Omron with the perfect opportunity to extend our products and technologies across geographies, given Colgate’s global presence,” said Kiichiro Miyata, President and CEO of Omron Healthcare Co., Ltd.

Omron’s healthcare division currently makes blood pressure monitors, digital thermometers, body composition monitors and pedometers for personal use as well as professional grade blood pressure monitors, non-invasive vascular monitors and portable ECGs.
