Users of oscillating power tools for applications such as sanding, scraping, sawing or polishing know how versatile and useful they are, but they’re also familiar with the problems of power backlash.

The tools are reliable and economical only when the power of the motor is transferred to the saw blade or backing pad with as little backlash as possible. The performance of the accessory essentially hinges on the tool mounting system.

With a secure mounting system, the accessory fits snugly, leaving virtually no possibility for movement or loosening. This tight connection allows for optimal transfer of power from the tool to the accessory, which in turn provides the best performance and result.

That’s why FEIN and Bosch partnered to develop a unique new tool mounting system called Starlock. It creates a joint standard while maximizing power transmission.

“Starlock is a snap-fit mounting system made with a 3D stainless steel cake-tin holder. Its design provides a perfect rigid mount enabling the 100 percent transfer of torque to the accessory,” says Randy MacDonald, national product manager with Fein Canadian Power Tool in Mississauga, Ont.

“There are currently various mounting systems on the market for oscillating power tools. It’s almost impossible to keep track of the offers of different manufacturers,” adds Willi Fellmann, responsible for the cooperation project at Bosch. “Furthermore, users have to accept performance losses when using an adapter. That’s where the new Starlock tool mounting comes into play.”

The patented Starlock mounting works with oscillating power tools made by FEIN and Bosch as well as with tools from other manufacturers with twelve-point mounting. The accessories are compatible with most popular machines on the market.

“Starlock accessories ensure even better performance than previous systems, thanks to their three-dimensional geometry,” says Rainer Warnicki, department manager for product development at FEIN.

FEIN and Bosch are offering three power classes: Starlock, StarlockPlus and StarlockMax. These power classes ensure that only accessories suitable for the respective power of the machine can be mounted.

FEIN has been a world-leading power tool manufacturer for over 140 years. Fein Canadian Power Tool Company, located in Mississauga, Ont., provides a range of high-quality power tools and accessories. Visit www.fein.ca for more information.
