Specialty Canadian paper company to add 50-person corrugated box plant to growing packaging business

MONTREAL—Supremex Inc. is stepping up its stake in the packaging industry through the acquisition of Montreal-based corrugator Durabox Paper Inc.

The envelope manufacturer, which has seven facilities in Canada, as well as three in the U.S., will take over the 50-person paper box plant in Lachine, Que., an on-island borough of Montreal.

“Through this strategic acquisition we gain not only a strong, vibrant and growing consumer packaging business with a positive outlook, we add complementary capabilities, cross-selling opportunities and vertical integration potential,” Stewart Emerson, the company’s president and CEO, said.

The deal will also help Supremex diversify its product offering, Emerson added.

Supremex did not release the cost of the acquisition, but said Durabox generated about $8 million in revenue last year.
