BOUCHERVILLE, Que.—Structural steel manufacturer Canam Group Inc. says it has won $55-million in new contracts to supply steel for building, bridge and structural projects in Canada and the United States.

Nearly half the value, or more than $26-million, is tied to a port dock being built in Quebec and two bridges in Wisconsin and Massachusetts.

Canam said it has signed a contract with general contractor Pomerleau to supply structural bearings for a multi-user dock project in the Port of Sept-Iles.

The bearings will be delivered by March 2013.

Its Structal-Bridges division will also supply girders for a Wisconsin overpass and Massachusetts bridge replacement.

Fabrication will begin in the spring and be delivered by the spring of 2014.

The Quebec-based company was also awarded an $8-million project to design and fabricate joists, girders, welded wide-flange columns and steel deck for the Montreal transit authority’s Stinson transport centre.

The 36,232-square-metre building is designed to house 800 workers and 300 vehicles.

Deliveries are scheduled by May 2013.

The Structal-Heavy Steel Construction division also netted more than $20-million worth of unspecified large-scale structural steel projects in both countries.

Canam operates 20 steel manufacturing plants across North America where it make components for an average of 10,000 construction projects annually.

The company employs nearly 3,500 people in Canada, the U.S., Romania, India and China.
