Company to build ground-based antennas for DND's Polar Epsilon 2

OTTAWA—Calian Group Ltd. has won an $8 million contract to build two ground-based antennas for a Canadian satellite program.

Awarded by MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA), which is handling the Polar Epsilon 2 project for the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND), the contract includes the design and installation of a pair of Radio Frequency antenna systems to be installed in Nova Scotia and B.C. Set to launch in 2018, the three-satellite project will provide the DND with maritime surveillance and ecological data.

“This project is an excellent example of the innovation being delivered by our SED division”,” Kevin Ford, Calian’s president and CEO, said. “Evolution of our service lines is a key pillar of our growth strategy. Continuing to evolve our deep subject matter expertise in high performance antenna systems is critical to our ability to respond to future requirements in this sector.”

Including two years of post-installation service support for the antennas, the contract covers four years.

The company said it will begin work on the project immediately.
