Authorities, company investigating accident at downtown metal facility

TORONTO—A worker has been killed at a metal products plant in Winnipeg.

Mississauga-based Russels Metals said May 6 that a fatal accident occurred at its St. James Street facility in downtown Winnipeg, though it has released no other details about the incident or the victim.

“We are devastated by this tragic accident,” John Reid, the company’s president and COO, said. “The employee who lost his life was a 12 year veteran of the company. Our immediate concerns are for the needs of his family, friends and colleagues.”

Russel’s Manitoba facility produces metal sheet and plate, structural products, tubing and pipe as well as hot and cold finished bars.
