BLACKFALDS, Alta.—A 35-year-old man was killed in a workplace explosion in central Alberta on Thursday.

It happened just after 1:30 p.m. at J. Moore Enterprises in the Burnt Lake Industrial Park, north of Red Deer.

Occupational Health and Safety officials said it appears the man was checking to see if a tanker trailer was clean when the explosion took place.

The cause of the blast has not been determined.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was hurt.
