Toronto-based waste and recycling company continues expansion

TORONTO—GFL Environmental Inc. is building its footprint in central Canada with the acquisition of Saskatchewan liquid waste company Envirotec Services Inc.

The Toronto-based company did not release the financial details of the purchase, but said it closed the deal July 1.

“Envirotec pioneered waste management in Saskatchewan and, in the process, has developed best industry practices,” Patrick Dovigi, GFL’s founder and CEO, said. “GFL expects to leverage Envirotec’s highly skilled workforce and strong management team across its liquid waste operations.”

Through the acquisition, Envirotec said it will maintain all its existing service agreements and partnerships in Saskatoon and Regina, as well as throughout the rest of Saskatchewan. The 25-year-old company employs more than 150 people in the province; no job losses are expected.
