Firm selected to design, operate proposed Northern Courier Pipeline project north of Fort McMurray
Calgary—TransCanada has been selected to design, build, own and operate a proposed $660-million natural gas pipeline in northern Alberta.
Chosen by the Fort Hills Energy Limited Partnership, TransCanada would head up the Northern Courier Pipeline project, a 90-kilometre pipeline system that would transport bitumen and diluent between the Fort Hills mine site and the Voyageur Upgrader located north of Fort McMurray, Alta., the company announced.
The project is fully subscribed under long-term contract to service the Fort Hills Mine, which is jointly owned by Suncor Energy, Total E&P Canada and Teck Resources, and is operated by Suncor Energy Operating, Inc.
According to TransCanada, the pipeline is conditional and subject to the Fort Hills project receiving sanction by its co-owners and obtaining regulatory approval.
TransCanada expects to file its initial regulatory application in late 2012.
A more detailed schedule is expected to be provided at that time.
