Repayable funding issued under the Temporary Initiative for the Strengthening of Quebec's Forest Economies
La Tuque, Que.—Quebec-based ice cream stick maker John Lewis Industries, Ltd., has received $900,000 in federal financial assistance under the Temporary Initiative for the Strengthening of Quebec’s Forest Economies (TISQFE).
Announced by the ministry of economic development, the repayable financial assistance will be used to modify existing machinery and acquire specialized equipment to modernize the company’s production chain, it was announced.
John Lewis Industries began operating in Quebec in 1945, with operations opening in La Tuque, northwest of Quebec City, in 1978.
Specializing in the manufacture of wood products for the food and beverage industry, most of John Lewis’ output is exported to five countries.
The TISQFE was brought into effect in June 2010 to help communities affected by the forestry crisis diversify their economies in order to ensure their growth and create and maintain employment, according to the ministry.
