WINNIPEG—A water barrier system developed in Manitoba has become the gold standard when it comes to flood mitigation.
The Tiger Dam System has now been given a platinum certification by a group made up of the U.S Army Corps of Engineers and Factory Mutual, one of the world’s largest commercial insurers.
This designation makes the Tiger Dam barrier the highest-rated flood mitigation system in the world and has sparked interest from other countries.
However, the system has its roots in Manitoba, where it’s been used as one of the primary rapid deployment tools in the province’s last several floods.
President Paul Vickers says his company wouldn’t have reached this level without the chance to develop in those situations.
The Tiger Dam is an orange, tube-shaped pyramid that can be filled with water and used as a barrier against rising water levels.
