Feds award $600-million contract for 500 tactical vehicles

Deal includes additional five-year in-service support contract worth $105-million
Gagetown, NB—Ottawa-based Textron Systems Canada, Inc. has been awarded a $603-million contract to manufacture 500 tactical armoured patrol vehicles (TAPV) for the Canadian Forces.
Textron Systems Canada—along with Textron Marine and Land Systems and Rheinmetall Canada—will manufacture the 500 heavily armoured vehicles, with an option for up to 100 more.
According to the company, Textron Systems Canada will handle program and configuration management as prime contractor, as well as coordinate vehicle integration activities by Canadian subcontractors, implement the industrial and regional benefits program and act as design authority for change management.
The deal includes an additional five-year in-service support contract worth $105-million.
The Textron TAPV team includes Kongsberg Protech Systems Canada (London, Ont.), Rheinmetall Canada (St. Jean sur Richelieu, Que.) and Engineering Office Deisenroth Canada (EODC) (Ottawa, Ont.).
Further Canadian partners including Michelin (Waterville, N.S.), General Kinetics (Brampton, Ont.), Evraz North America (Regina, Sask.), SED Systems (Saskatoon, Sask.), Ontario Drive and Gear (New Hamburg, Ont.), Mobile Climate Control (Vaughan, Ont.) are expected to supply parts and services as the program is ramped up.
The first TAPV is scheduled for delivery to the Canadian army July 2014, with the last scheduled for March 2016.
